Dr Kate Hughes

Dr Kate Hughes completed her PhD in strategy and supply chain management in 2015, completing her studies over an eight year period through the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) in Sydney, Australia. Her research project focussed on identifying the resources that help and/or hinder managers, employed by non-profit organisations in humantarian supply chains of varying levels of sophistication. Her observation was that many of these organisations compared extremely well with some of the most sophisticated of commercial supply chain networks. Kate's business experience is in critical research project management. She has provided management consulting services to prominent supply chain dependent organisations in Australia, where she developed expertise in understanding how best to incorporate "the voice of the customer" into a major logistics transformation effort.

She was the Vice President for Communication for three years and co-track chair for two years with the Humanitarian Logistics and Crisis Management School, with the Production and Operations Management (POMS) Annual Conference in USA. She is currently on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Operations Management, holding this position since 2012. She is also currently assisting Stamford International University in Bangkok, presenting to aspiring managers in Thailand undertaking an MBA program. Prior to this role, she held a Visiting Professor position at Louisiana State University in the United States and Visiting Lecturer positions at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and the Dublin Institute of Technology, both in Ireland. Her first comprehensive academic position was with Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland in its Logistic Research Centre, which is an integral part of the Business School.
